The challenge for many artists and performers is figuring out what the challenge is.

From the time they begin their careers, many artists are fed a lot of misleading mythology about who an artist is and what it means to be one. Artists, we’re told, have a sacred mission, and they should be beyond the mundane details of life.

A lot of this isn’t just malarcky, it’s destructive malarchy – and it’s often used maliciously by those who would exploit artists.
